I do enjoy a wide range of abstract art and the colours, shapes and textures of Impressionist and Expressionist paintings of the 19th and 20th century have always resonated with me. The approach of portraying the world in an emotional rather than a representative way suits me very well. As I do not feel brave enough to take up painting myself, I use my camera instead to create abstract images. Sometimes these images are just out-of-context details of an object with the aim to simplify a form. Other times they are more complex multiple exposures which emphasise certain colours or create something new that exists independently from the 'real' subject.
